Life-Threatening Injuries Faced by Jeremy Renner Following Snowplow Accident

Fact: In 2023, actor Jeremy Renner was involved in a snowplow accident while trying to stop his snow-removal tractor from sliding into his grown nephew. The tractor pulled Renner under the vehicle running him over.

Brief

Jeremy Renner is an American actor whose career began in independent films like Dahmer (2002) and bigger films like S.W.A.T. (2003). Renner attended Modesto Junior College where he primarily focused and specialized in computer science and criminology, before taking drama classes and deciding to pursue acting. His first film debut was an under-achieving student in the 1995 comedy National Lampoon’s Senior Trip. From 1995 – 2001, Renner produced small roles in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and other television film whilst working as a makeup artist to make ends meet. It was not until 2002 and 2003 that Renner started to catch the eyes of the film elites.

The Flip

On New Year’s Day, Renner was clearing snow from his neighbor’s home and assisting his nephew, whose truck had become stuck, with a tow. Renner moved his nephew’s truck from outside of his house, into the street. Lake Tahoe had received a large amount of snow and had already been without power for 24 hours due to the large snowfall. The snowplow began

it began to roll down the hill

because Jeremy Renner forgot to engage the parking brake. Renner initially jumped out of the snowmobile to talk to a family member not realizing it was heading for his nephew. He feared the snowplow (Pistenbully snow groomer) was going to hit his nephew and attempted to stop or divert the snowmobile. In an effort to enter the snowplow’s cab, Renner tried to climb onto the track but missed and ended up getting pulled under the left side track.

Unfortunately, Renner was completely crushed under the snowplow (14,330 pounds) and had 

extreme difficulty

breathing with the right side of his chest, collapsed – upper torse was crushed. The large snowmobile rolled right over Renner and continued down the road. He laid flat on the ground and focused on his breathing while his nephew and others rendered aid to him until medical personnel arrived on scene. In total, the Jeremy Renner snowplow accident broke more than 30 bones. A statement made by a representative for Renner confirmed the injuries that had occurred,

We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and has undergone surgery today, January 2nd 2023. He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition

On January 3, Renner spoke out after the incident to his fans,

. Also, costar, Mark Ruffalo asked fans to pray for a ‘speedy recovery’ of ‘brother’ Jeremy Renner. Mark also dealt with a serious scare back in 2001 when he, himself, had a dream and was later diagnosed with a brain tumor. Mark Ruffalo brain tumor (benign vestibular schwannoma) was located behind his left ear and could have rendered him completely deaf and paralyzed on the left side, but he was able to regain 95%. 

On January 5, 2023, Renner shared a sweet video of his mother and sister during a hospital stay.

About 10 months after the accident, Jeremy Renner marked his recovery with sharing another video where he showed himself hopping down a hill, and then running back up. The first attempt of activity brought him to tears,

. The fact that Renner was able to regain this type of motion was nothing short of remarkable seeing he had a shattered tibia and a broken knee. He also had 8 ribs broken in 14 places, a broken eye socket, a collapsed lung, and a pierced liver. If it were not for him focusing and fighting on his breathing after the incident, he would have most certainly died. He had to focus on moving his stomach muscles to push air out and suck it back in, despite all the broken ribs and collapsed lung. By doing this, he could stay conscious and manage his pain. This strong intuition was a clear determining factor that led to Renner surviving 7-tons of metal rolling over him. He is forever grateful for those with him that day and those first responders that saved his life.
