Fact: Artist ‘Nas’ has been nominated the most times in hip hop and has yet to see any grammy’s for his songs.
Nas is one of the most influential and celebrated rappers of all time, and with 13 highly praised albums to his credit, you might think that he would have taken the Grammy for best Rap Performance at least once.
Well think again, because this New York native has missed out on awards from 13 Nominations since his first in 1997 for Best Rap Solo Performance. As usual with these things, there’s a lot of speculation as to why Mr. Jones has never made it to the winners stage, with many claiming that Nas’s music is too ‘street’ and simply not mainstream enough to break past the more radio friendly rappers out there.
Grammy or no Grammy, the Nas rapper songs smile on and continues to do his thing, putting out new music, and using his passion to help the community. Most recently NAS was honored by Harvard University as they opened the Nasir Jones Hip Hop Fellowship, a program that will fund and assist scholars and artists on their way to Hip Hop greatness.
As if his own Grammy snubs weren’t enough, NAS was also one time husband to American artist Kelis, who also missed out on Grammy awards in 2004 and 2007.
