Fact: Ian Richardson, Scottish Actor is renowned for the role of elegantly evil, Francis Urquhart in House of Cards 1990, the BBC version. Richardson said: “I am rather sick of him…it clung to me rather heavily. The parts that then came my way were always a relation of Francis Urquhart.”
Did the dignified Richardson prefer being associated with – mustard? Who doesn’t remember this commercial: “Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?” Richardson was the snobby occupant in the back seat of a Rolls Royce, who popped the famous Poupon question to another snobby occupant in a second Rolls.
Still, this little ditty remains the most parodied of Richardson’s roles. In 2014, a comedic video went viral with the ad: “What do you Poupon?”
Another line Ian Richardson will be remembered for is from the House of Cards english edition:
“You may very well think that; I couldn’t possibly comment.”
If you haven’t watched the BBC version you probably heard Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey) make the non-denial, denial in the American version House of Cards.
