Fact: Michael Bay wasn’t supposed to make Transformers 4 Age of Extinction. He also claimed that Mark Wahlberg has been just a rumored choice for the starring role.

Rumors that Mark Wahlberg will be starring in Transformers 4 lasted for weeks. During that time, the plot of the fourth Transformer installment was still unknown. Making Transformers 4 with Mark Wahlberg in mind, was one of the biggest decisions that Bay has ever made in his entire career. Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon was supposed to be the last Transformers movie, but after the roller coaster ride he had in Universal Studios, he confirmed that there would be a Transformers 4.

Michael Bay’s smaller production, Pain and Gain starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Mark Wahlberg. Wahlberg and Bay worked well in the movie. When Bay knew of Wahlberg’s possible Hasbro work, he offered the Transformers 4 starring role to the actor. Michael Bay believed that Mark was the perfect actor to invigorate the franchise once again. Mark Wahlberg definitely started a legacy in Transformers 4 because he is an Oscar-nominated actor. He made the fourth installment much meatier, when it came to acting. With Mark Wahlberg, the movie landed in the middle of comedy and action—perfect sense.
